Working on the site takes a whole lot of energy. There are always bugs to fix, and users requesting additional features. At least I have the satisfaction that it slowly gets better.
Its hard to get online and work on something after staring at a computer monitor all day anyway during regular work. Too keep myself sane I have this little mantra that I repeat in my mind: "baby steps". I just repeat that over and over again, reminding myself that the little baby steps of improvement are worthwhile. The sites will probably never be grand, never be well known. I should give up, but I wont, its just too much fun writing code and designing html layouts. I do hope the chat takes off a little bit more. It takes me back to the grand ole days of irc.
